William Kahi Villa’s son, Jessiya, is making a name for himself in US HS hoops

Remember William Kahi Villa? He was a Fil-American, wide bodied but undersized forward who was a 3rd round draftee by Talk N Text, 26th overall in 2003. He played 39 games for the Phone Pals in two PBA seasons until the 2004-05 PBA Fiesta Conference.

More than a decade after his last stints in the PBA, it looks like his son Jessiya could carry on the family name in the realm of Philippine hoops.

Jessiya Villa just wrapped up his junior season in high school hoops for the Martinsburg High School in West Virginia.

The 5’11 guard helped his team reach the finals of the 2016 WVSSAC Boys Basketball State Championship – Class AAA Tournament. In all, Villa and the Bulldogs finished the year with a 21-5 record. He was also named to the 2016 West Virginia Class AAA First Team and the lone junior to be chosen. Villa, who has several Division I college on the West Coast interested on him, averaged 17 points, 3.4 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game.

Should Jessiya continue to shine, tapping him for the Gilas Cadets program shouldn’t be a problem. In 2013, he was included in Philippines men’s national under-16 basketball team pool but was not included in the final roster.

We’ll be sure to keep an eye on Jessiya, but in the meantime, here are some of his basketball highlights:
